World Press Photo prize - Exhausted

‘Exhausted’ photo wins World Press prize

An image of an exhausted US soldier in a bunker in Afghanistan has won the top World Press Photo prize for news photography.
Judges described the photo by Britain’s Tim Hetherington for Vanity Fair magazine as an image that shows “the exhaustion of a man - and the exhaustion of a nation”

What stunned me about this photo is that modern 07/08 war varies little from previous wars. Technology hasn’t airbrushed the heartbreaking grim reality.
