They have most likely stayed within the legal bounds of their Terms and Conditions and while no AOL member is about to get robbed or arrested, the smarmy marketers and spammers now have the data.
What was the point of this exercise, who benefits and who's the next big player to try this on?

It was a screw up: Sorry Mr Weinstein. All this says to me is that AOL doesn't have it's eye on the ball.
