CSIRO Wins WiFi Patent Settlement

That little Aussie battler, CSIRO, could be in for billions in unpaid royalties since establishing it's patent for 802.11a and 802.11g Wi-Fi against Hewlett Packard.

CSIRO wins landmark wi-fi settlement - ABC News

Since the Australian science agency received a patent for its IEEE 802.11a and 802.11g Wi-Fi products in January 1996, the technology has been adopted as an industry standard by most notebooks and desktop computers around the world.

With Hewlett Packard down, they are now going after Intel, Dell, Toshiba, Asus, Netgear, D-Link, Belkin, SMC, Accton, 3-Com, Buffalo, Microsoft and Nintendo.

Australia may well have a CSIRO led economic recovery.

Looked for this on last night's 6 PM National and the 11 PM news. Not a peep on CBC
This could be huge, depending on the settlement.

What amazes me is how quick these big players are when it comes down to "software pirating" (MS) yet they use and abuse patents like they are confetti...

Hewlett Packard have bailed out of court proceedings and are paying an "agreed" amount as settlement....

Wonder what the likes of MS etc will do now.

So, the whole elite big names have decided to "settle out of court" in preference to being called CROOKS by a legal entity.
The next time Microsoft rabbit on about illegal copies, remind them of their and many other majors stealing from the CSIRO
Millions to flow from CSIRO wi-fi win

Isn't it strange when a non-American company actually succeeds in protecting its rights under patent law, that all the self-serving American TROLLS emerge from under rocks and out of sewers to complain about unfair treatment ?

The shoe is now on the other foot.

Good work CSIRO - keep it up !! To hell with those US hypocrites !!
