IE7 beta 1 - it's a start

Great news at IE Blog on progress towards a better Internet Explorer browser.

We�ve heard some great feedback on what web developers would like to see in IE7, both from the responses to my last post and from the resources I referred to. The rest of the team was cranking away while I was away on parental leave, and I wanted to share a few details about what they were doing [...]

The alternative browsers have certainly made the sleeping giant take a less complacent attitude and an IE7 beta release will be highly anticipated.

Support for alpha channel in PNG images is a long overdue addition. The issue now will be all the designers that have to contend with their IE6 hacks and allow for IE7 as well, not to mention the number of enterprises running IE6 only designs.

It's ironic that these long sought after improvements will bring their own set of issues for designers and developers.
