Maintaining Standards

Letting Standards Slip

Unwired thumbnail image

Ms M is studying usability and one example that came across her radar is the classy and friendly Unwired designed by HotHouse Interactive

Constructed as XHTML STRICT it now fails validation due to some pretty basic errors.
It seems like the contract may not have included ongoing maintenance.

I guess this is just another example of market place reality that too easily devalues Standards based design.

Does this happen because...

  • the upside of Standards are not sold to the client.?
  • maintenance is too expensive?
  • its not seen as important?

How can Standards be more easily maintained so they don't fall through these real world cracks in the floor?

Re the site.... I would like it more if they would stop that Flash animation after it's first cycle.
