Maureen Dowd nails it

Democrat: Heal thyself.

Praying Bush

Dowd NYTimes Editorial
The president got re-elected by dividing the country along fault lines of fear, intolerance, ignorance and religious rule. He doesn't want to heal rifts; he wants to bring any riff-raff who disagree to heel.

Elected...
Tom Coburn, the new senator from Oklahoma, has advocated the death penalty for doctors who perform abortions and warned that "the gay agenda" would undermine the country. He also characterized his race as a choice between "good and evil" and said he had heard there was "rampant lesbianism" in Oklahoma schools.

Jim DeMint, the new senator from South Carolina, said during his campaign that he supported a state G.O.P. platform plank banning gays from teaching in public schools. He explained, "I would have given the same answer when asked if a single woman who was pregnant and living with her boyfriend should be hired to teach my third-grade children."

John Thune, who toppled Tom Daschle, is an anti-abortion Christian conservative - or "servant leader," as he was hailed in a campaign ad - who supports constitutional amendments banning flag burning and gay marriage.

Well said Ms Dowd. Image source: Reuters

MS Doyd,

Liberalism is dead, slowly leaving our country like a bad cold. Move to France, your opinions will shine brightly there.

Mr Carlson, I remember well when Conservatives wondered if they would ever return to the heady days of McCarthy and were told by cocky liberals that Conservatism was dead.

Never make brave predictions about politics, they always have a way of biting you on the arse. Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not in 4 years, but they always do.

I'm glad those people got elected under Bush. I am glad Bush was reelected. The youth seems to be complaining about his re-election when only 10% of registered voters ages 18-24 even voted. They obviously in their minds "had better things to do". Bush isnt perfect but he is better than kerry. Sadly enough a large portion of people today blindly believe the media and resources that they find. Not to mention the overwhelming bias of the news media and its effect on the millions who watch it. Most americans are blind, media-followers that can't think for themselves, and are too lazy to truly research thoroughly. The increase in the number of people who are leaving the US and going to canada..... I'm glad they are leaving. They are making the US a better place by being gone.

News media bias!!!! Give me a break, FOX was not biased?.

See you in 4 years when Bush has either put America into deeper debt or cut every programme ( Pensions, Health etc )he can just to try and pay off the current debt level ( Highest in US history ) while also trying to pay for his little ongoing Iraqi adventures.

Sorry, but the number of Americans leaving the country does not even register a blip, those pesky bitching Liberals just aren't going away.

Hallelujah! on every point you made. Not only did America express her heart for forthrightness and disgust for the liberal media agenda, but the vote was also a vindication of the whining and attempted invalidating and disavowing of the previous election. Thank God America has displayed that it does not have to be run from Hollywood and opinion polls!
