The Downside of Occupation Before Decoration

Someone is alleged to have said... Don't rush home decoration decisions. Soak up the ambience, let ideas and colours flow, don't force them. etc etc.

So you move in, hang your art, stack your books, shuffle your furniture, soak the ambience and eventually decide on...
repainting every room.

Painting the interior of a house is no small task. All that ambience soaking stuff has to be moved, covered and not see a drop of paint. Room by bloody room.

Just when that's completed, she who subscribes to the occupation theory, decides to have the carpet replaced.

Five rooms have to be completely emptied.

It's like moving house again, without removalists.

The carpet layers love it, finish in 4 hours and ....
you have to move back in without those burly removalists.

It takes the edge off decorating.

My theory says, go live in a swank hotel for a week or two, even three. Visit your new empty house as as often as possible. Make your decisions and do it. Move in and relax. You avoid the ambience soaking waste of time and a shed load of effort.
