The Old Town Prints It's Own Money

With the Canberra forecast at -2c for tomorrow, I miss our old town in Queensland.
Not only is the weather warmer but they think differently up there.

Money worries so town prints its own

They are going to print their own money.

The Baroon Dollar - named after Lake Baroon near Maleny - will be printed and sold at local, independent businesses to encourage locals and visitors to keep buying up locally.

Good luck to Baroon Dollar, I hope the scheme works.

Thanks for the mention! Maleny's a great place isn't it? Hope you visit in the near future (escape the winter doldrums).

Our hope is that the Baroon Dollar will create a great opportunity for the whole community to work together. We are also aiming to seed similar projects across Australia.

I was just listening to a report about this on the BBC World Service. It's a great idea and the perfect sort of community to try it.
