Adsense, Mozilla.org and Gmail

FOUGA FIX : This Firefox / Adsense issue has been resolved in a round about manner.

The solution required that the Search box be seperated from the side menu, floated right, and placed in the header together with the Google Ad.
It is now seperated from the database calls of the main posting area.
Before the fix I noted that the number of Adsense Firefox flashes were directly related to the number of enteries posted on that specific page.
Yes, I counted. Browser checking underway.

Mozilla.org redesign :
The proposed new Mozilla.org beta website, posted at Acts of volition, reinforces my belief that the sooner they drop the Mozilla Browser the better.

The objectives of making browser switching Auntie, Uncle and Grandparent friendly are defeated once you arrive at the current mangled Shea designed site or the proposed Beta.

If my Auntie went to Mozilla.org, the first thing they do is force her to make a decision. Firefox?? or maybe Mozilla!!

Google Gmail Helper ( beta ):

The Gmail Notifier is a downloadable Windows application that alerts you when you have new Gmail messages. It displays an icon in your system tray to let you know if you have unread Gmail messages, and shows you their subjects, senders and snippets, all without your having to open a web browser.

I agree with your points here. I think it becomes a issue of what the Mozilla project is trying to do. If they want to appeal to a consumer market they are going to have to realize that they may need a different site for that, maybe a different domain name all together.

The die hard geeks and programmers that work on the project will probably ignore this post and it's comments but I think if they ever did some good old focus group and usability testing they will see there is a lot of confusion that shows up with the brands.

Nick, your points are valid and may even be covered by an intimate knowledge of the latest "Roadmap" for Mozilla.org.
That is of little interest to the people that just want a better browser, and want it presented clearly without room for ambiguity or confusion.

Maybe http://www.silverorange.com/ will have a positive influence before the new site goes live.

John, I agree. The roadmap answers the questions... but what consumer is going to want to read all of that??

I am not trying to be negative. I love the product, I just think they need to hire a good copywriter and a marketing guru before they try to take over the world with open source. I posted a little bit about this here:

Mozilla and Firefox: When brands collide
